Interview with Martina Di Gallo

  1. Tell us about CiviESCo. What is your core business and role within the project?

CiviESCo is an ESCO with a strong experience in implementing and financing energy efficiency interventions of buildings through EPC schemes, as well as, in leveraging modern financing and assessment tools.

Within iBECOME, CiviESCo will delineate the structures of innovative EPC templates aiming at bringing together the various offering and value proposition of the services provided by the iBECOME virtual Building Management System (vBMS).  As a result, we will develop suitable and innovative business models based on the outcomes of the legislative framework evaluation, the bankability evaluation and the delineation of the EPC schemes.

CiviESCo is also leading the engagement with the Italian demo based in Tolmezzo and overseeing the iBECOME implementation on site.

  1. Why did your organisation get involved in the iBECOME project? How does this activity fit with the normal business of your organisation?

CiviESCo will bring to the project its strong expertise in the context of the construction and financing of “green” operations and projects, develops innovative business models and financing schemes with the aim of encouraging investments in sustainability and in the social sector.

  1. How will the outputs of the iBECOME project help drive the sustainability agenda?

The aim of iBECOME is to anticipate and augment the digitalization, decarbonization and decentralization of the energy system.  Concretely, the project will combine novel technologies and new business models in the form of a vBMS. As a result, buildings energy performance and comfort conditions will be optimized, and, at the same time, the operational costs will decrease.

  1. What are the technical challenges your work in iBECOME is trying to overcome?

Special attention must be paid to guaranteeing a high level of profitability and innovation of the business models that we are going to develop within the project. In order to achieve this objective, we should take into consideration the know-how, the characteristics and peculiarities partners bring within the project. In addition, concerning the value proposition, we should pay particular attention to the relation with the customers and to the product development.

  1. What positive impacts will the projects have when complete?

The platform developed by iBECOME enables good practise in energy management of small buildings and facilities. Thanks to this project, different stakeholders will benefit from a more efficient management and control of the building and users will enjoy higher levels of comfort. The additional services that iBECOME offers, augments the feasibility of the concept and allows the new business model of the operational ESCO to be utilised.
